At the end of September 2006 I saw a veiled Muslim woman shopping in a small supermarket near my house. It was for the first time I saw it in my small town (80 000 inhabitants). I have seen many of them in big cities when I was travelling. But near my home it’s a big surprise. And there’s a feeling that something has changed.
Multiculturalism became a part of our world. People travel, move to another countries, bring their culture into the new place. The states aren’t any more what they use to be. Mainly big cities are exhibition of nations, races, cultures and religions of the world. This change makes some people afraid. “What happens to our nation? How will be the Europe of future?”
Old men complain that there wasn’t something like this before. It’s new and nobody knows what it will cause. I think it’s not exactly true. There were always moving and exchange of nations in the history of humankind. For example the Roman Empire was a large multinational state and people from the whole known world migrated to Rome. And the empire flourished.
But there are some bad examples also. The Migration Period in the 4th – 7th century has probably facilitated the end of the Roman Empire, there were many wars, many people died and some nations disappeared at that time.
Nations and countries (as we know them from the 20th century) have undergone very turbulent development. They didn’t arise isolated but they merged, the languages developed and changed themselves when newcomers came, new parts of culture and new customs were accepted and adopted. How can anybody be sure that today’s situation is end state and must be conserved as it is?
Actual process can be seen as a following of the development of languages and nations. But there are some differences. The travelling today is very fast and easy. We can visit not only our neighbours but also very long-distanced countries. Suddenly people from cultures meet each other which didn’t have any contact for centuries because of geographical insulation. There are many new conflicts and misunderstandings.
Whether multiculturalism is the right choice, we will see later. We should only try to protect our own civilisation so that it won’t get lost. To nourish our customs, to keep purity of our language, to maintain our culture. To transform it to modern appearance. To retain our identity. And so the veiled women won’t be any threat to us but a welcomed guest, who feels good by us and who can be enrichment for our world.

My CV
I was born in the summer 1983. I studied social interactions, team work, communication and obedience in the Kindergarten. Then writing and reading in the Elementary School, some other knowledge in the High School.
Now I study on the University, already for the 5 years. My future plans are to graduate, then to work, to be retired and to die. I would like to yield the last point, but it’s not up to me.
